Town Hall
EFC July 19, 2023 Town Hall Recap
We had almost 100 registrants for our first town hall and about 50 participants. There was lots of lively discussion, insights, and questions. We’re excited to continue with this initiative to foster positive change within the coaching community. Here’s a recap for anyone who couldn’t attend.
About Ethics for Coaching
EFC is currently an all-volunteer group of licensed therapists, social workers, consultants, and coaches attempting to raise the standards of the coaching industry. EFC is in its very early, developmental stages of the organizing effort and we still have a lot of work to do but we didn’t want to go any further without gathering feedback from you, the coaching community, as you are all the pivotal stakeholders in this effort. That’s why we hosted our very first town hall meeting, marking the pivotal kickoff of phase 1: a grassroots-led organizing initiative.
During the meeting, we took the opportunity to share our current projects and exciting roadmap for the future that are aimed at creating a safer and more reputable coaching industry.

Topics we discussed:
Each of our current volunteers introduced themselves, gave a bit about their professional background and the expertise they’re lending to the group.
Our team of consumer rights attorneys introduced themselves and talked about why they’re invested in offering free legal assistance to victims of coaching scams.
We talked about our current efforts to develop educational resources such as the EFC handbook.
We discussed the criteria required for posting honest coaching reviews on our site as dictated by the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Review Fairness Act and how our team gives feedback to prevent defamation.
Our attorneys provided more information about what you can expect when you inquire about submitting a claim through their website and the investigative process that happens after your claim is received.
Q&A Session
There were a lot of topics that we discussed during the meeting, and some that we didn't get to. We’re currently gathering all of the questions asked during the meeting, both in the video and in the chat, as well as follow-up questions to incorporate into our FAQ page. We hope to have this posted shortly. Stay tuned!
